Fibrespill Knops
Fibrespill knops are a natural oil absorbing product, consisting of small balls of wool fibres.
Developed by Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand, Fibrespill is non-toxic, non-flammable and
bio-degradable.
Fibretech New Zealand Ltd is the world’s only producer of Fibrespill oil clean-up wool knops.
- Oil sorbency : Independent evaluation trials in Canada found Fibrespill to be the best natural oil
sorbency product tested, and ranked it in the top four (out of sixteen) of all natural and synthetic
products.
- Water/oil interface : Fibrespill is a particularly effective sorbent at the water/oil interface, as well as
being straight oil sorbency.
- Absorbency : Wools natural affinity for oil, coupled with the unique knop design, enables Fibrespill
to absorb up to 40 times its own weight in oil.
- Re-usable : Once absorbed, the oil can be removed by hydro-extraction, while the Fibrespill knops
retain their sorbent properties for re-use.
Fibrespill knops can be blow-filled into knitted PE containment shells and can be used in a variety of
product forms.
Fibrespill applications include :
- Booms - for spill containment and clean-up in streams, lakes, ponds, harbours
- pads - for oil clean-up on water surface areas
- compact pads - for boats, under machinery, in sumps and other confined locations to soak up oil at
the source
- customised filters – for a range of industrial and engineering installations
- loose knops – for efficient mopping up over wide areas or where complete recovery of the sorbent is
not practicable
